World Book Night

Over the past few weeks, I heard about an exciting idea called World Book Night. Many of you probably already know about this event, but I thought I'd share a little bit about it just in case.

World Book Night will take place on April 23, 2012 across the U.S., UK and Ireland. During this event , 50,000 people, named as “book givers,” will each be giving away 20 books from a select list with a goal to have 1,000,000 people across the United States celebrating reading. Most of the publishing, bookstore, library, author, printing, and paper communities are behind this effort with donated services and time.

You can sign up at by February 1st to apply to be a “book giver.” You can see the complete list of titles that includes books from author faves Jodi Picoult, Michael Connelly, Stephen King, Barbara Kingsolver and Junot Diaz at: There are adult as well as young adult titles available.

I think this is a great way to spread your love of reading! I'm heading over to the site to learn more about being a volunteer and I hope you'll join  me.

I applied but I probably wasn't creative enough. It's going to be fun to read about everyone's experiences.

I applied too. We should all give away books in the West Village, have a little reunion, drink some tea... :)

I haven't applied, but I think it will be interesting to see how this one turns out.

I applied and was pretty much stumped by the first question on the application. LOL I hadn't given much thought to where I'd distribute the books. I guess I kind of figured I'd know when the day came.

We'll see what happens. If I get chosen, great. If not, then someone had a better idea than me.
