Review: Daddy Calls Me Doodlebug

Summary: What do you call your little one?

This charming board book companion title to Mommy Calls Me Monkeypants showcases daddies' nicknames for their babies. It captures the love and playfulness of father and child interaction with clever, funny verses and illustrations that are right on the mark. The rhyming couplets also teach about animal behavior, which comes to life in Hiroe Nakata's sweet and charming watercolor artwork.

This adorable and quietly informative book is perfect for sharing with a favorite little one. -- Robin Corey Books

If you are looking for a special gift for your little one to give to his or her daddy this Father's Day, then you've come to the right place. DADDY CALLS ME DOODLEBUG by J.D. Lester and illustrated by Hiroe Nakata is a positively adorable book and just perfect for daddies to share with their toddlers.

DADDY CALLS ME DOODLEBUG is a 24 page board book geared towards ages 1-4. And you know how terrific board books are for that age range! The book shows lots of different daddies -- including whales, monkeys, and porcupines -- spending time with their little ones. The book is written in the voice of each baby animal and tells the reader the special "pet" name that the daddy calls his child. For example, the whale daddy calls his baby "Shoo-Be-Doo" and the monkey daddy calls his little one "Mini-Me." All of the nicknames also reflect the behavior of the animals.

I thought this book was precious and so were the illustrations of the daddy animals and their kids. Unfortunately, my son is too old for this book; but I know if we had read it a few years ago, it would have been one of his favorites. It's cute, silly, sweet, and guaranteed to entertain both children and parents alike.

Thanks to the publisher for sending me a review copy of this book.

This sounds adorable. It's too bad your son is too old, but I think adults love kids books just as much as kids! It's just that in between time when kids don't want to seem like "babies" that they reject all those wonderful books! :--)

My youngest son LOVES this book, namely because we do call him doodlebug! Our copy is quite worn, and he is getting a bit old for it, but it's still a book we love!
