Matrimony Giveaway

Summary: It's the fall of 1986, and Julian Wainwright, an aspiring writer, arrives at Graymont College in New England. Here he meets Carter Heinz, with whom he develops a strong but ambivalent friendship, and beautiful Mia Mendelsohn, with whom he falls in love. Spurred on by a family tragedy, Julian and Mia's love affair will carry them to graduation and beyond, taking them through several college towns, over the next fifteen years. Starting at the height of the Reagan era and ending in the new millennium, Matrimony is a stunning novel of love and friendship, money and ambition, desire and tensions of faith. It is a richly detailed portrait of what it means to share a life with someone-to do it when you're young, and to try to do it afresh on the brink of middle age. -- Vintage

Joshua Henkin and his book MATRIMONY hold a near and dear place to my heart. My book club read MATRIMONY last May, and I thoroughly enjoyed it -- you can read my review here. Not only did we have a wonderful discussion about the book, but Mr. Henkin actually joined us! He was gracious enough to drive two hours to attend our book club meeting in little old Mechanicsburg, PA. It truly was one of the highlights of my year! If you'd like to learn more about our meeting, you can read a summary of it here.

Mr. Henkin loves meeting with book clubs and participating in the discussion. In fact, he wrote a great essay about book clubs that you can read here. I can vouch that he is extremely interesting to talk with, and he definitely would enhance your book club meeting.

I am not alone in my praise of this book -- it is a New York Times Notable Book of the Year, a National Booksense Pick, and a Borders Original Voices Selection. I think MATRIMONY would make a wonderful book for your next book club meeting. The discussion questions are a great starting point, but I'm sure you will find many more things to talk about. If you'd like to learn a little more about Mr. Henkin and his book, check out this video:

If you still would like to learn more about Mr. Henkin and his book, you should check out The Elegant Variation blog. On September 4th, Mr. Henkin was a guest blogger on this site and wrote a total of 24 posts!

Not that all of this isn't very exciting, but there's still more! In honor of the release of his book in paperback, Mr. Henkin has offered to giveaway a signed copy to one lucky reader!

All you have to do the enter is leave a comment here with your e-mail address! If you'd like to double your chances, please blog about the giveaway with a link back to this post. The contest will run until Sunday, September 14th at 11:59 p.m. EST. I will announce the winner on the 15th. Good luck!
