Kid Konnection: Pug Meets Pig & Giveaway

Every Saturday, I host a feature called Kid Konnection -- a regular weekend feature about anything related to children's books. This week I'm going to share with you an adorable picture book that has already received a starred review from Publishers Weekly.

Summary: An unlikely pair—a pug and a pig!—realize that it’s better to be together.

Pug is a very happy pup. He has his own yard, his own bowl, and even his own cozy bed! That is, until Pig moves in and starts eating from Pug’s bowl, interrupting Pug’s routine, and, worst of all, sleeping in Pug’s bed. Will Pug and Pig ever learn to live together as friends?

This sweet and silly story about a darling duo celebrates the timeless themes of embracing change, being kind to others, and finding friends in unlikely places. -- Beach Lane Books

PUG MEETS PIG by Sue Lowell Gallion and illustrated by Joyce Wan is so darn cute that I can barely stand it! It's a story about two animals that end up forming an unlikely friendship... after a rough start.

Pug is very content. He lives in a big house with a big yard that he can play in. He also has his own bowl filled will food and his own little doggie house with a comfy bed. What more could he ask for? Life is great for Pug... until Pig enters the picture. Pig basically makes himself at home -- in Pug's home -- and takes over everything that Pug treasures.

Pug decides to pack up his things and leave until he sees a doggie door that only he can fit through. Life is good again because Pug is happy in his big home, but Pig is sad. He can't fit through the door. Pug decides to do the right thing and help out poor Pig, and the two become fast friends!

PUG MEETS PIG is positively adorable. It's a sweet story about friendship that is certain to appeal to young children... and their parents. I loved the message in the book about helping others and the reward that follows (in this case a new friend!).

In addition, I really liked the illustrations. As you can see from the cute cover art, Pug and Pig are round little guys that are super cute. I thought the chubbiness of the characters was so funny, especially when Pig managed to get caught in the doggie door!

PUG MEETS PIG is a funny and sweet story that's guaranteed to capture hearts. Highly recommended.

I love stories about making unlikely friends. What a great way to teach kids to make friends outside our comfort zone.

So cute! The basic premise reminded me of the beginning of the movie Pets, which was also adorable. The cover illustration is also so charming!
